Hi Advocate:

We have 2 weeks to influence the Senate Finance Committee as the Committee hears from Ohioans on where our state should make strategic investments in the biennial budget bill. Unfortunately, health, human services and early care & education service providers and consumers don’t have paid lobbyists. That's why we need people like you to put pressure on your state Senator, Senator .

Your voice is especially crucial as our records show that your Senator serves on the Senate Finance Committee! Your voice is especially crucial as our records show that your senator is Senator Chris Widener, Chairman of the Senate Finance Committee!

Will you commit to giving us 2 minutes a day over the next 2 weeks?

Our plan is to send you daily emails for the next 2 weeks with information and a brief message. We need you to voice the message to your senator. and the Chairman of the Senate Finance Committee, Senator Widener.

Will you call and give Senator ()your Senator and Chairman Widener (614-466-3780) the following message?

This budget must offer our neighbors a lifeline. The working poor in your city are struggling because of wage stagnation, underemployment, and low-paying jobs. They need relief from hunger, homelessness, mental illness, addiction, and other issues so that they and their families can remain self-sufficient until the economy recovers.  If we fail to invest in services that ensure our neighbors in your city are educated and healthy, our workforce will be poorly positioned for when prosperity returns. I urge you to prioritize health, human service, early care & education and other workforce supports. We need to invest in people who, despite working hard every day, are unable to provide adequate food, health care, and security for themselves and their families.

If you want to invest more than 2 minutes per day this week, we encourage you to prepare testimony and help us pack the Senate Finance hearing room with HHS stakeholders. Public testimony on Medicaid begins Wednesday, May 18th from 9:00 – 1:00 p.m. in Room 126 in the Senate Building. Later that day, the Committee will hear other Human Service testimony from 2:00-5:00 p.m.

If you wish to testify during public testimony, you need to submit a witness slip no later than 5:00pm on May 17th. If you do not submit a witness slip by this deadline, you will still be heard on the day of committee, but you may end up waiting longer to be heard.  Witnesses are asked to limit prepared remarks to 2-3 minutes.  Witnesses for public testimony should bring 40 hard copies of testimony with them on the day they testify.  Please direct questions and witness slips to Daniel Hurley in the Chairman’s office, daniel.hurley@senate.state.oh.us.
