Hi Advocate:

The debt ceiling deal was signed into law by President Obama yesterday. To learn more about the deal, I invite you to participate in a webinar entitled The Debt Ceiling Deal: Background and its impact on vulnerable Ohioans on Wednesday, August 10th from 3-4:00 p.m.

The deal starts with $1.1 trillion in discretionary spending cuts over ten years. It also calls for a Joint Select Committee on Deficit Reduction to propose a plan by November 23 to reduce the deficit by $1.5 trillion over ten years.

The purpose of the webinar is to better understand what’s at stake for Ohio’s vulnerable children, families, seniors and people with disabilities. Our panelists will discuss what these cuts will mean for health, human services and early care & education programs in Ohio, including Medicaid, Medicare, SNAP (food stamps), WIC, TANF, the Head Start Program, and the Older Americans Act. You'll also find out ways to reach out to your Congressman or Congresswoman during the August recess.

You will hear from a number of Advocates for Ohio’s Future leaders and coalition partners, including:

  • Emily Campbell, Public Policy Fellow, Center for Community Solutions
  • Lisa Hamler-Fugitt, Executive Director, Ohio Association of Second Harvest Foodbanks (OASHF)
  • Ericka Thoms, Policy Associate, Voices for Ohio’s Children (VFC-OH)
  • Larke Recchie, Executive Director, Ohio Association of Area Agencies on Aging (O4A)
  • Cathy Levine, Executive Director of Universal Health Care Action Network of Ohio (UHCAN Ohio)

Please forward this to colleagues or volunteers to help us engage more people in your network!

Thank you.
