Dear Advocate:

Were you able to attend a “My Medicaid Matters” rally on Wednesday in Cincinnati, Cleveland, or Columbus? The rallies outside Senator Rob Portman’s district offices – and other rallies across the country – helped shine a light on the need for the debt-reduction Super Committee to protect Medicaid from service cuts, cost-shifting to the states, or conversion to a block grant. Check out some photos from the Columbus rally on Facebook. If you have more pictures from the rallies in Columbus, Cleveland, or Cincinnati, feel free to post them on our Facebook page or email them to Will Petrik.

Even if you couldn’t join a rally, there’s still time to advocate. Tell Senator Portman and your other representatives in Congress why Medicaid and other federal safety-net programs matter to you.

During these crucial weeks before the Super Committee finalizes its national debt-reduction recommendations, we need to demonstrate how many people rely on vital human needs services and how many people will be hurt if they are cut. Our new fact sheets highlight the value and the increasing need for federally funded services locally and statewide.

While policy makers must take action to create jobs and resolve the nation’s debt crisis, they must do so without driving more people into poverty or increasing income inequality. Please join us in sending this message to Congress today!

Please make sure to use our new county and statewide fact sheets to personalize and localize your message.

Thanks for all you do to support Ohio's children, families, seniors, and people with disabilities in need.
