Good afternoon Advocate,

Yesterday, over 2,500 people from across the state braved the wind and rain to ask lawmakers to choose people over politics and extend health coverage to 275,000 Ohioans in the budget. The message was delivered by a diverse community including business leaders, faith leaders, veterans, former lawmakers, consumers, advocates, labor groups, and health providers (health centers, hospitals, managed care, behavioral health and disability providers).

On behalf of the staff and all of our board members at Advocates for Ohio's Future, THANK YOU!
Thank you for your participation and for the many others across the state who helped spread the word about the rally, recruit community members to join, rent buses, find rides, and make sure our voice was heard.

Your time, energy, and passion helped make the rally the success it was. You can make sure more people hear the message by spreading the word or sharing the pictures from the rally on Facebook and Twitter.

News Coverage
The rally was covered in the Columbus Dispatch, the Cleveland Plain Dealer, the Toledo Blade, the Akron Beacon Journal, Cincinnati.com, 10tvnews.com, ABC6, nbc4i, Dayton's Fox45 as well as the Statehouse news services.

Pictures of the Rally
You can also find pictures of the rally at the Advocates for Ohio's Future Facebook page (thanks to Jon Groner for taking the photos).

Many of our partners took phots at the rally too. Check out our partners' pics: the Ohio Association of Community Health Centers, Public Children Services Association of Ohio, Voices for Ohio's Children, and CareSource.

Next Steps
Although we made an impact yesterday, our work is not done. We must continue our advocacy efforts and keep up the momentum.

We need you to take action today and every day next week by making three phone calls to legislative leaders urging them to support extending health care coverage to 275,000 Ohioans through Medicaid.

  • Speaker of the House - Representative Bill Batchelder: (614) 466-8140
  • Senate President Keith Faber: (614) 466-7584
  • Finance Committee Chair – Representative Ron Amstutz: (614) 466-1474

The Message:  “Please support extending health care coverage to 275,000 Ohioans through Medicaid. It will strengthen families, communities and our economy. I hope you will choose people over politics and extend health coverage to low income, working Ohioans.”

Thank you for showing up and standing up for people and our communities. We'll be in touch next week with more next steps.

Will Petrik and Gail Clendenin
