Good afternoon Advocate,

On Monday, May 20th, hundreds of Ohioans participated in over a dozen events across the state to call for extending health coverage to families and communities in Ohio. Advocates, health care providers, veterans, faith leaders, and business leaders joined together to call on Ohio lawmakers to expand health coverage by June 30, 2013.

Here's a brief recap on the day:

  • There were events in Cincinnati, two in Cleveland, Columbus (Whitehall), Lima, Mansfield, Springfield, Wooster, Youngstown, Zanesville, Medina, Lebanon, and Clermont County.
  • Over 400 people made hundreds of calls and sent over 1400 emails to all 33 Senators, Senate President Keith Faber, and House Speaker Bill Batchelder. Together, we sent a message that "we can’t afford to miss out on this historic opportunity to extend health care coverage to Ohio families and communities!"
  • Hundreds of people also participated in the "share your #healthcare4OH photo" social media campaign. Click here for photos from the social media campaign.

News Coverage
Local actions were covered in the Cleveland Plain Dealer, the Lima News, nbc4i, and This Week Community News.

Next Steps
Thank you for showing up and standing up for families and communities in Ohio as part of the Statewide Day of Action on Monday.

A stand-alone healthcare reform bill was introduced on Wednesday by Representative Sears (R-Sylvania) which creates a pathway to Medicaid reform. A brief overview of the bill was written in the Columbus Dispatch. We applaud Rep. Sears for her leadership on the issue of Medicaid reform. Rep. Sears's bill is not the only Medicaid reform bill we expect to be introduced in the House. We'll keep you up to date as the conversation progresses.

With your help, we made an impact on Monday, but we know that time is running out to extend healthcare coverage to Ohioans and we must continue our efforts. Thank you for all you do to support health care for Ohio.
